A letter to Mcdonalds Singapore

KC said:

There’s something in your spice mixture that not only stings the tongue, but also the stomach, then the intestines. I felt horrible the whole day after lunch, with this burning feeling in my tummy gnawing at me. It was as though the chewed and digested Mega Mcspicy burned whatever part of my body it was in contact with.

This cumulated into several bad episodes of very painful diarrhoea at midnight. Being medically trained, I knew that it wasn’t harmful yet so I did not see a doctor.

A quick search on Google shows that I’m not the only one.

The Moral Erosion of Young Women in Singapore

Jerrie said:

To add on, on their blogs all you see is endless post of partying, make up ,advertorials, …how to look good, how to be ‘perfect’ like them..their website with magazine cuttings of them scantily clad in men’s magazine along with digitally enhanced pics are a cry for attention and a cry to the public “envy me, be like me.. there is no higher calling than beeng almost naked in maxim!”
….
The obession with looks manifest itself best in the way it erodes morals. The most obvious thing we can all see is young girls wearing extremely little on the street- tube tops+mini skirts, super short dress, damn low cut shirts and things like that on the streets… I know the weather here sucks but that gives no excuse for doing such things at a young tender age of 14-15 years old.

Singapore strikes again!

superbrad said:

Let us begin with an apology to our readers in Asia. Unless they are online, they will not see this editorial. For legal reasons, we are refraining from publishing it in The Wall Street Journal Asia, which circulates in Singapore.

Our subject is free speech and the rule of law in the Southeast Asian city-state — something on which the international press and Singapore’s government have often clashed. We can’t say which side would prevail if the Singapore public could hear an open debate, but the fact is that we know of no foreign publication that has ever won in a Singapore court of law. Virtually every Western publication that circulates in the city-state has faced a lawsuit, or the threat of one.

Singapore licenses are online! - Creative Commons Singapore

Creative Commons Singapore said:

…if you are a Singapore-based author/creator there is nothing stopping you from using another country’s license from the Creative Commons website, but it makes all the sense in the world to use the Singapore-specific licenses - these are crafted with a language that is tailored to Singapore law and this will be helpful for local legal experts and courts in case you ever need to take legal action against unlawful uses of your content. So, you’re doing yourself a favor if you use the Singapore-specific Creative Commons licenses (and of course you’re also making those of us who worked on them happy to see the licenses used in practice)!

Recommended by ramblinglibrarian: “Hope this would create more awareness among Singapore-based authors/ creators/ bloggers who are interested in sharing their works online AND who wish to ensure their rights are properly articulated.”

Prostitution thrives in Singapore

Al Jazeera said:

Singapore is one of Asia’s wealthiest economies, attracting migrant workers from across the region.

But many of those workers are women who are forced to work in the sex trade due to growing poverty caused by the global economic downturn.

Civil service pay cut

www.musings.per.sg said:

This economic downturn is largely caused by external factors beyond the control of the Government / civil service … Therefore, I don’t see why public officers should generally be penalised by a pay cut … [ though ] one of the few justifications that I can see for this pay cut is that it serves as a reminder to public officers … that they cannot go about their usual duties … without consideration for the man-in-the-street.
